I photographed her daughter-in-law’s wedding almost 4 years ago along the border of Arizona and Phoenix. Jasmine and Joey believed in me enough to get my feet underneath me. I set out from Oklahoma City westbound on I40 in my old Buick, drove through the day and night to photograph their marriage. I reconnected with an old friend who has become one of my closest confidants. I witnessed their love and joy. And last month, I got to see them again at his mother’s wedding.
There was much old, wise love at this wedding. There was a spirit that said, “Now that we have come so far and seen so much, we are risking our vulnerable selves again to this covenant”. There was a spirit of joy, of anticipation, of true, deep, sacrificial love.
